Sandy Hooks Elementary School Tragedy

1

December 14, 2012 by Vicki

Today, the Internet made my heart chill and break as I read about the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary school. I was going to post my review of Little Women, but to talk about anything else today seems wrong. Today, twenty little children between the ages of five and ten, lost their lives. As President Obama stated, they had their whole lives before them. I have no words for the loss that those little lives represent. I cannot even begin to imagine the grief, loss and heartbreak that the parents and families must be experiencing right now. The fact that it is ten days till Christmas must make it even worse. I sit here typing with tears rolling down my face, and I know that I do not feel one tenth of the grief the parents must be experiencing.

Please, please do not use this tragedy to advertise or promote your own beliefs. Please, allow those afflicted by this tragedy to grieve in the comfort of their community. Let the community grieve the losses that have so afflicted them. I speak also of the teachers and staff of Sandy Hook Elementary School, many of whom died protecting the children who were their first concern and responsibility. I will not use this tragedy to argue any opinion or view. I merely wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to all who have lost loved ones today. To the police and other emergency personnel to this tragedy, I commend their quick actions. I can only imagine the scenes they must have encountered, and the courage it must have taken to accept responsibility for the safety of so many. My heart goes out to all of you.
